Von Lee Smith

This guy performed on The View this morning. Rosie found him while she was playing on YouTube. He was awesome. Here is his official website with the YouTube video. Go, play, listen!

A Curvy Oscar

Did you take in the Oscars last night? So nice to see curves represented at the Oscars. Jennifer Hudson looked fabulous (actually, I'd say everyone looked fab)? She sounded amazing too.

I watched her Barbara Walter's interview beforehand and the most notable part of the interview was when she sang a few lines. It gave me chills and had Barbro in tears.

I can't believe how well Jennifer has done in such a short amount of time. Seems like yesterday when she made the final 12 on American Idol and was told by Simon Cowell she didn't have what it takes. It's been only 2 1/2 - 3 years and she has a Golden Globe, SAG Award and now an Oscar.

Jennifer competed with only 700 other girls for her role in Dreamgirls. When you take into consideration the casting, rehearsal and movie making process, she's had a very busy and an extremely successful go of it.

Her curves definitely aren't holding her back!

On a very interesting after Oscars note, I saw a clip this morning of Meryl Streep. Someone was congratulating her on her 14th Oscar nomination and she said it went well with her size 14 frame. Huh? I didn't know Meryl was plus size.

Good to Know

I'm home. This is going to sound a bit weird. But I really enjoyed my internal ultrasound appointment this afternoon. How crazy is that?

I had a really good Ultrasound Technician. Really. Ok, I'll try not to use "really" again. Anyway, I learned some very important facts. All women have ovarian cysts, or fluid filled sacs, every month. They range in size between 1-3 cm. Guess what, they burst every month. Hello? That would have been nice information to hear from my doctor.

The Tech, showed me each of my ovaries and the "fluid sacs" on them. Apparently they (as in the techs) don't call them cysts until they are bigger than 3cm. My right one doesn't like to have it's picture taken but she found it. The left one does has a bigger sac on it but she said that could be because it's getting ready to pop... "Look out! She's going to blow!"

I asked her if we can feel them burst and she said there is a disorder where some women can feel the ovaries pop but she couldn't remember the name of it. I'll have to do some more research on this as I think I fall into this category.

She also talked a bit about my endometrium. I have a very thick one (and it has nothing to do with my weight). It's the reason why my menstruation is heavy and painful.

I left my appointment on a high. Now, I know I still have to wait a week until the Technologist reads and compares my results to my last exam but I'm feeling very positive compared to the last two months.

Little Miss Sunshine

Jeff and I watched this film the other night and I'm adding it to my list of favourites and must see again. It's a roller coaster ride of emotion.

This sweet, hysterical and sad film is about a middle class family struggling to get by and struggling to keep the pieces of their family together. They pack up the Volkswagen bus to travel to California so the youngest little Olive can compete in a beauty pageant called Little Miss Sunshine.

I laughed really hard and cried numerous times. All the actors young and old were suburb. I'm not a big fan of Steve Carell (40 year old virgin, The Office) but I loved him in this film. You may remember little Olive (Abigail Breslin) from Signs and Raising Helen. Cute-T-pa-Toot-T.

Some may not think the story line is original--family forced to travel together-- but this really is a dynamic group of actors and we really did enjoy it from beginning to end. I highly recommend seeing it.

A New Companion for the Doctor

I'm very sad. First, I have my second internal ultrasound coming up on Thursday. I've been feeling a pressure in my lower abdomen the last two weeks so I have myself believing the ovarian cyst has grown to the size of an apple. This may have something to do with seeing images of a 90lb cyst removed from a woman. Or maybe I'm just constipated. It'll probably be another month before I get the results by which time it will be the size of a cantaloupe or will have burst causing me considerable pain and damage.

As if that wasn't enough, Rose Tyler is trapped in an alternate universe never to fall openly in love with The Doctor. I'm seriously very upset about this. Rose Tyler is no longer the companion for the Doctor. Tonight was her last episode. A new companion will be replacing her in the third season in the Spring. When Christopher Eccleston left after the first season I had no intentions of watching any further episodes but luckily David Tennant was talented enough to pull me back in and of course there was Rose played by Billie Piper. Since then she's had the nerve to go off and make movies and play in the theatre. I miss the days when actors actually stayed with a show for five or seven years. ER comes to mind.

I hate change. And I plan to pout about this for awhile.

Celebrity Look Alikes

I've seen these around the blog scene for some time but every time I went to check it out the site was down. Finally I made it through and wasted a good 30 minutes or so seeing who looks like me. I tried a couple of different photos from different time periods and apparently Renee Zellweger and I have a lot in common. The last one has us at a 90% match. Other than the blonde hair and blue eyes, I really don't see it. How about you?

Pampered Puppy

The Pampered Puppy is one of my favourite websites for dog related stuff and their monthly "cutie" contest is tops. This month's newsletter had me laughing my pants off because they introduced "The Marilyn Collection". As in Marilyn Monroe, the screen starlet. Like me, you're probably wondering what Marilyn Monroe has to do with dogs.

For those fans who think they have everything, they can now dress their dog to look like the late Norma Jean. Luxury clothing for your dog has really gone over board in my opinion but to each his own. My dog is quite happy to walk and run around with what the goddess gave her. And please don't take the "but my dog gets cold" crap because these little numbers are all glam and not function. They are fine for a photo shoot but come on.

I'm pretty sure Marilyn was a dog lover but I really wonder what would she think of these. Look at the Marilyn Monroe Collection for Dogs.
