Shade Lovers Unite!

I would love to have a tan. And I'm not talking about one of those bottle tans. I'm talking a Matthew McConaughey tan. Unfortunately, my pale Irish genetics don't allow me to attain more than a lobster glow. Sunscreen and shade are my friend. So when I saw this knitty.com exclusive by designer Kelly Griffith I just had to share it will all my albino-esque friends out there. Kelly has designed a knitted umbrella. Or dare I say, the latest fashion in parasols. It is beautiful. Check it out, make one and spread the love of personal shade appliances around the world.

30 Wanna Movie Hottie: 10

After watching Deep Blue Sea the other night I couldn't help but add Thomas Jane to the Wanna Movie Hottie listing. Jane's hot meter is raised even higher by being married to the lovely and talented Patricia Arquette (True Romance forever!!).

Jane, who looks a little Christopher Lambert-ish at times is probably the only masculine blonde you'll see on this list but who knows, we're only a third done. He can buff up or pudge out with the best of them depending on character requirements and has worked with some of Hollywood's top leading ladies: Cameron Diaz, Angelina Jolie and Patricia Arquette (Medium).

Selected Movie Overview: Probably the first movie I admired him in was The Velocity of Gary (1998) with Vincent D'Onofrio. It's a weird movie about a love triangle seared by Aids and unrequited love. Jane spends a lot of time looking too hot for his own good. As I mentioned earlier Deep Blue Sea (1999) was on the other night. If you like shark movies this is pretty good. It isn't Jaws but it's pretty good. There are some excellent water stunt scenes and the supporting cast is Samuel L. Jackson and L.L. Cool J. For some reason I love baseball movies. And even though he's not the main character. He plays a important role as Mickey Mantle in 61 (2001) . Jeff makes fun of me because I like baseball and footballs movies but could care less for the real thing. Last year I saw Stander (2003) for the first time. It was loosely base on the life story of a South African police officer who became frustrated with the system and decided to rob banks. Also stars Wanna Movie Hottie David O'Hara. Thomas Jane is probably best know for his role as comic book hero Frank Castle in The Punisher (2004) which is kind of reminiscent of Mad Max. The good guy's family is murdered by really bad people. The good guy makes bad people regret their lapse in judgment. Great action movie. Lots of explosion and lots of muscle. I'm looking forward to The Punisher II coming in 2007 or 2008 depending on your source.

The basics: Thomas Jane was born in 1969 (great year) in Baltimore, Maryland and is of Irish/Italian/German descent. He's been married twice, divorced once. He has done some theatre; most notably, Tennessee Williams' Glass Menagerie. He has ventured outside of acting to create a comic book called Bad Planet which is linked at his official website. His best creation so far is a collaboration with current wife Patricia and that would be their four year old daughter Harlow Olivia Calliope. Here is his official website.

Spring Sheering

Finally, a picture of my new teeth. Yes, that's it folks. I was never much of a smiler before so that's all you're going to get until I work them in. I think I have a grimace somewhere I can post later.

In the meantime, how about that hair? Other than the cowlick I'm pretty happy with it. I've gone down about 8" in a month. It's already warming up here and I'm thinking of doing a Brittany for the summer. I did it in May 2004 before my seizures and loved it. It was cool, didn't have wet hair all day, and looow maintenance.

I'm thinking I'll get some highlights in a few weeks or maybe see what the sun will do for my hair. Haven't decided. It's a money thing right. I did, after all, spend a fortune on those off-white grinders.

I think I'm being watched! I just looked outside my window and there was a robin sitting on a cedar branch, his head bobbing back and forth in my direction. Think I'm paranoid? Maybe he likes my new hair cut too. Oops... he's gone. Guess I wasn't his type. Have a great weekend!

Post - 24 Hour Writing Contest

I stayed up all night working on my short story for the Writer's Weekly contest. I took a break about 4 a.m. to have a shower. I finally finished around 8 and had to do an update for BIW before I crawled into bed.

Overall, I think my story sucked. I'd share it with you but it's really bad. But I submitted it anyway. There were certain lines and such I appreciate but I don't expect to win anything.

It's been a long time since I've written a short story so I'm not surprised in how I feel about the writing. When you don't use it you lose it. I felt rusty. It was a good exercise.

I got up about 2 p.m. I feel like c*&p. I was helping Jeff put up a shelf when a wave of nausea came over me. I actually thought I was having a seizure relapse and panicked which then freaks Jeff out. It wasn't and I'm fine. Jeff said I'm sensitive from lack of sleep. I have to agree. I had some toast and am feeling fine now. Just catching up on all the stuff I put aside.

I took some funny pics of my "new" teeth so you can expect those in a day or two. Happy Sunday!

24 Hour Writing Contest

I'm participating in Writer's Weekly 24 hour short story contest today. It's been years since I put myself through the rigors of this kind of writing. When I was budding writer I did this contest for a year and half. It's insane.

Wish me luck!

Sink Your Teeth into Luvees

Ok, maybe not your teeth but your thighs will appreciate you. Check out my latest product review on the thigh protectors by the name of Luvees.

As for the teeth portion. I have the crowns and my mouth is finally settling down and starting to feel normal or at least not as foreign. I'm not ready to show you yet. I'm still self conscious. Maybe next week.

It is finally spring here. I have crocuses blooming in the front and my daffodils are a couple inches high. There's some tulips doing well in the back yard if I can keep the dog from digging them up.

Shelby got a blast from Jeff the other day (which doesn't happen very often). We have a downspout partially buried under the ground and the water was pooling at the exit. She loves to dig (she has her own wading pool for this purpose) in water so she took it upon herself to have a digging frenzy. Jeff caught her and blasted her. You should have seen the look on her face. She was covered in mud up to her armpits and all along her underside and this sullen but partially excited look on her face.

Jeff was fuming. He was tired from work and now had to hook up the hose and spray off the dog enough to bring her inside and throw her in the tub. I wish I had taken a picture of her. On one side you're so pissed off and on the other you're fighting not to laugh your ass off. She spent most of the next day inside because we didn't trust her to be out by herself. She seems to have recovered from her lapse in judgment and is basking in the spring sunshine... I better check to make sure.

Creative or Procrastinating

Am I being creative or procrastinating? Hmm. I'll go with creative and my friend Nessa said she needed a buddha for her site. This is my attempt at buddha... well one of many erasures. I found it hard to keep a steady hand this afternoon on my Wacom.

Have a peaceful day!

30 Wanna Movie Hottie: 9

I watched a delightful movie last night that spurred (latest word of choice) today's Wanna Movie Hottie. Alice Adams is a 1935 movie starring the late great Katherine Hepburn and Fred MacMurray.

MacMurray was just darling as was this film about a middle class girl trying to fit into an upper class society. Of course, she falls in love with a rich man who is totally smitten with her from the moment he sees her across a crowded room. Throughout the movie Alice tries to hide her embarrassment over her family and their inappropriate etiquette and lack of funds.

Fred MacMurray was all charm and smiles as the smitten rich boy looking for true love. His tall dark and handsome features definitely put him into the Wanna Movie Hottie category.

He was born in Kankakee, Illinois in 1908 and yes, passed away in 1991. He made over 80 films in his career; The Shaggy Dog was the only one familiar to me, and numerous television appearances. If you're old enough you might remember MacMurray as the all-American-dad from the My Three Sons series. Alice Adams was filmed early in his career.

I'm definitely going to keep an eye out for more Fred MacMurray films in reruns.
