Eco-Friendly Meme

Here's a meme I created for my Blogging Meme lens. Feel free to participate and link in the comments to your:

Do you recycle? Yes, every week. Flyers, cardboard, hard plastic, soft plastic, aluminum, and glass.

Do you do you laundry with hot or cold water? I do laundry with cold or lukewarm water. I also use cold water Tide.

What kind of light bulbs are in your house? We use the new energy efficient fluorescents. I was very resistant to using them but I've adjusted and don't even notice the difference anymore. Now, if only we can find a safe way of disposing of them.

Do you compost? Yes, we compost about 10 lbs of food waste a week. I have two composters in the back yard. Here's a lens I created on composting tips. I need to work harder at using things more quickly.

What kind of vehicle do you drive? We are currently leasing a Toyota Sienna but are looking into an energy efficient alternative. Hopefully they will be a little bit cheaper or there will be some type of financial incentive by the time that comes around.

Do you use plastic or reusable bags when grocery shopping? Both. We reuse any plastic bags we get until we can't use them anymore then they get recycled. We use a bunch of canvas type bags we've collected over the years for grocery shopping and I carry a hobo bag with me that pretty much holds anything. Here's a lens I created on eco-bags.

What are three ways you conserve energy?
* By not letting the water run when brushing teeth.
* Shutting off lights when leaving a room (or when DH has left the room).
* By not letting the car idle when it's not moving.

America's Next Top Model Goes Plus

Finally! And sort of. This past week Whitney Thompson won America's Next Top Model (ANTM). I say "sort of" because Tyra made a point of saying at the end of the show that Whitney is Full-figured, not plus size. I believe she is the 6th curvy chic to attempt ANTM but the first to make it to the top. There are lots of rumours about whether it was a fair decision or whether it was a pushed decision. The latest rumour even goes so far to say that she was approached on a plane and asked to put on some weight to compete.

I have mixed feelings about it. I'm glad that a full-figure model is finally in the top position and I think Whitney is beautiful. Where do I conflict? I didn't think she was necessarily the best choice to win. For the most part I was enamoured with Claire. After she was demoted Anya began to grow on me personality-wise and from the get-go she produced amazing photos as well as winning a number of photo challenges. I think in terms of talent Anya probably should have won.
When you compare Whitney to the previous plus size models who have been on the show I don't think she is the strongest. But I guess everyone can make comparisons on whether it was a good choice or a bad choice. I wasn't a judge so I really don't know what went on in the judging room other than the clips they show on the tube.

Regardless, I'll try to be supportive of Whitney because, the curvy chics have to stick together when possible and I do think she'll be a good role model. I look forward to seeing her Seventeen magazine spread in July.

What... Huh?

First I thought, "What?" then I thought, "Huh?" Then I was just laughing my butt off. You have to watch it until the end to appreciate this spoof. I think it was very well done.

Chloe Marshall

Chloe Marshall is the recent winner of Miss Surrey, a beauty pageant in the UK.

She is now competing for the title of Miss England. She has received mostly favorable reviews but she's received a few harsh ones too.

I personally think she's stunning and hope she wins so she can go on to be the first plus size candidate to compete in Miss World.

Here's a lens I created in her honor.
