Twitter Me This

I'm a late bloomer to most things. I recently joined Twitter. Begrudgingly. If you are unfamiliar with the term Twitter. It is a social networking tool for updating others on what you are doing, having mini conversations and of course shameless self promotion.

I never thought in my wildest dreams that I could be addicted to anything more than email. But I am. These little message bursts of 140 words or less have become a strange addiction. I have met lots of people, visited many new websites/blogs I otherwise would never have heard of and have learned about the latest news, usually before I see it on the tube.

If you are on Twitter you simply must look me up. I promise to follow if you touch base. And if you have just started twittering I recommend you download Tweetdeck to help you manage your friends and your incoming and outing messages. It's really what has reinforced my addiction.

Historical Day

I'm watching the inaugeration of President Elect Obama online at the Washington Post while I work. I probably won't get as much work done but I can't see missing such a historical event.

Snickerdoodles are Evil

The other day I followed a blog link through a twitter account and came across a recipe for snickerdoodles. Besides being cute, there was something familiar about the name but I had never baked or eaten them before. The recipe was a simple enough, mostly sugar, butter and cinnamon but it was the blogger's adamant praise (and that fact that she was known to her friends for making them) that made me print it off:
"I started making these when I was pregnant with Ethan as I craved cinnamon sugar so badly! And well, because the name Snickerdoodles is just to fun!"
I made them up last night and I can safely say the little buggers are evil. Evil I tell you! They were super easy to make and really pretty as you can see from the picture. But they are completely addictive. I swear Jeff ate 12 of them before he went to bed. I swear! He couldn't help himself. He's laying off them today a little. Me, yes, of course I over indulged. I definitely won't be making these for a long time but I think if you haven't you should at least do it once. I like to spread the evil around don't you know.

First Favorite Pic

This is the first favorite picture I've come across in 2009. I found it while looking for a visual prompt for my Write Prompt lens. No, I don't know them, but they are absolutely sweet. I love the contrast of the brown eyes and the blue eyes. They look like they could be sisters or best friends or both.

Quote From Rebecca West

This quote was made by author, journalist and feminist Rebecca West:
"People call me a feminist whenever I express sentiments that differentiate me from a doormat or a prostitute."
I have often heard women say "I'm not a feminist." One of the most misunderstood words is the word "Feminist". That's probably because it has had a lot of help from the opposite sex (no I'm not male bashing, just stating a fact but the good thing is, 'they' as a whole, have improved).

The first line of Wikipedia's description sums it up, "Feminism is a belief in the right of women to have political, social, and economic equality with men."

I don't know any women who wouldn't want any of these things and what it entails; whether she was a doormat or a prostitute.
